Potential Patriots player Troy Brown could leave for Arizona State University role, according to reports

There is a possibility that Troy Brown will not remain in New England after all. A candidate for the position of wide receivers coach at Arizona State University is a former wide receiver for the Patriots who is currently serving as an assistant coach, according to Noah Furtado of 247 Sports

A day after Ra'Shaad Samples, who had previously served as Arizona State's wide receivers coach, was promoted to the position of running backs coach and assistant head coach, Brown was reportedly seen on the campus of Arizona State University on Monday, as reported by Furtado.

During the post-Bill Belichick era, Brown has had an interesting offseason. The three-time Super Bowl champion represented the Patriots at the 2024 Shrine Bowl in January as an offensive coordinator.

However, his role as wide receivers coach in 2023 was filled when new head coach Jerod Mayo brought in Tyler Hughes and Tiquan Underwood as wide receivers coach and assistant wide receivers coach, respectively. Brown's offseason has been interesting.

In 2023, Brown was also responsible for working with kick returners; however, the Patriots also signed Jeremy Springer to serve as their new special teams coach

Brown is still on the coaching staff as a "skill development" coach, according to head coach Jerod Mayo, who stated this to reporters at the NFL owners' meetings in late March. However, it is not surprising that Brown may pursue other options

Currently, he is the only member of the offensive coaching staff from the 2023 season that is still employed by the organization. This is due to the fact that Alex Van Pelt, the new offensive coordinator, is in charge of a completely new group.

In light of the fact that New England finished the previous season ranked worst in the NFL in terms of points per game (13.9), and that wide receiver was a glaring weakness that needs to be improved if the Patriots want to return to relevance, it could be prudent for the Patriots to begin the offensive season with a clean slate.
