Off-duty S.C. cop charged with deadly shooting of fleeing fight driver.

An off-duty Summerville Police Department officer was charged with murder after allegedly shooting a 39-year-old man during a confrontation.

According to a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division press release, Anthony DeLustro, 64, and Michael O'Neal, 39, allegedly fought at a Chick-fil-A parking lot on 1312 North Main St. on March 20.

Police stated DeLustro and O'Neal fought after a verbal altercation. Eyewitnesses called DeLustro the “primary aggressor” while bystanders separated the men.

After eyewitnesses stated O'Neal said he wanted to leave, DeLustro broke free and vowed to murder him, according to the warrant.

“Evidence then showed that the victim disengaged and retreated from the physical altercation with Anthony DeLustro and returned to his vehicle,” the warrant stated. While partially seated in the victim's passenger seat, Anthony DeLustro fired a single revolver shot as the victim drove away. Michael O'Neal was shot and murdered on scene.”

The woman accused with attempted murder in the 'random' stabbing of a 1-year-old boy in Philadelphia gave a statement to WCSC, pleading for leniency in court on April 10.

All my life was public service. I never committed a crime and never had a complaint in 35 years in law enforcement, DeLustro stated. "I just ask you for mercy so I can help my wife with the girls during this."

Michael O’Neal’s family has raised almost $26,000 on GoFundMe. The website indicates O'Neal was a policeman's son.
