Magnitude-3.8 earthquake lightly shakes Coachella event.

A moderate, magnitude-3.8 earthquake Saturday morning may have shaken Coachella Valley music fans camping, staying, and rioting.

The U.S. Geological Survey said that the temblor hit at 9:08 a.m. north of Borrego Springs, a San Diego County desert town 60 miles south of Indio's Empire Polo Club, site of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Though modest, the temblor was felt in most of Southern California, home to over 20 million people. USGS data suggests that inhabitants from the U.S.-Mexico border to the southern Orange County coast and into the wide desert felt at least weak shaker intensity.

The earthquake may have occurred near the San Andreas, the West's most dangerous fault, which extends through the Coachella Valley and into the Salton Sea.

No injuries or damage were recorded. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department and Office of Emergency Services did not reply to calls for comment.

There was little anxiety at Coachella, where Orange County band No Doubt was reuniting for a much-anticipated concert Saturday night.

Music fans on social media blamed the shaker on the strength and reach of their favorite Saturday-night headliners, including Tyler, the Creator.

The Coachella social media account did not mention the quake. Instead, they said Saturday morning that they were “building the energy for day two” of the festival's first of two weekend lineups.
