Tuesday revealed that Luke Combs leads the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards nominees with eight. He's nominated for male artist and entertainer of the year for the sixth year. The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas will host the 59th ACM Awards on May 16.
Combs' eight nominations include Tracy Chapman's first. His version of her “Fast Car” is a nominee for song of the year, which includes songwriters and publishers. Chapman became the first Black songwriter to win Country Music Awards song of the year for Combs' cover of her 1988 tune.
Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen each have six 2024 ACM Awards nominations, while Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson each have five. Jelly Roll and Jordan Davis have four nominations.
Jelly Roll gets his first ACM nominations for entertainer, male artist, single, and music event for “Save Me” starring Wilson. “Need a Favor” won big at the CMT Music Awards last week. A performer last nominated for entertainer of the year in his first round of ACM awards was Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992.
Wilson was the only female top performer. Few women have the title; Miranda Lambert got it 2022. Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett tied for the crown in 2020, the first tie and the first time a woman had won since Taylor Swift in 2012. Wallen, Kane Brown, Cody Johnson, and Chris Stapleton are entertainer of the year nominees.
The ACMs disqualified Wallen in 2021 after he was captured on camera uttering a racial insult. He got four nominations in 2022 and 2023. He was detained on Monday for throwing a chair off the rooftop of a downtown Nashville six-story bar, which debuted that day.
Artist-songwriter and single of the year have no women nominees. The lone female album of the year is Kelsea Ballerini's “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat (For Good)”. It also features Combs' “Gettin' Old,” Stapleton's “Higher,” Johnson's “Leather,” and Wallen's “One Thing at a Time.”
Prime Video and Amazon Music will stream the 2024 ACM Awards on Twitch Live Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. EDT. At 7 p.m. EDT, Prime Video, Amazon Music Channel on Twitch, and Amazon Live will stream a red carpet feed.
