For different reasons, many feel Biden and Trump done more harm than good (Part-1).

Washington)— The reason President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump spend so much time bashing each other is that neither has a good record. Many Americans believe they did more harm than good in the White House on important subjects. Both candidates have different weaknesses. Biden sees broad dissatisfaction with the economy and immigration. Trump has a large electorate that believes he injured the country on several subjects.

More than half of U.S. adults think Biden's presidency hurt the country on cost of living and immigration, while nearly half think Trump's presidency hurt voting rights and election security, foreign relations, abortion laws, and climate change, according to a new AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll.

“Considering the price of gas, groceries, and the economy, I did very well during those four years,” said Texas Republican Christina Elliott, 60. “I didn't have to worry about filling my tank or losing half my paycheck to the grocery store.” Elliott disliked Trump's abortion stance and remarked, “He just needs to learn how to be tactful and shut his mouth.”

Other than that, I did well during the Trump years," she remarked. The polling shows why abortion for Biden and immigration for Trump have been campaign themes. The former president often describes the amount of asylum-seekers who entered the U.S. under Biden as catastrophic. After last week's Arizona Supreme Court judgment criminalizing abortion, Biden has attacked Trump on the issue.

About one-third say Donald Trump and one-quarter say Joe Biden helped people like them more. However, 30% of adults said neither Biden nor Trump helped them. Another data point showing an electorate dissatisfied with this year's general election choices, producing little enthusiasm within crucial Biden and Trump political coalitions.

Biden is unpopular with Americans on several grounds. Only 2 in 10 Americans think Biden's presidency helped “a lot” or “a little” with cost of living, while 16% say immigration and border security. Almost 60% feel his presidency hurt these issues a lot or little. In contrast, 46% of Americans feel Trump's leadership helped immigration or border security. Four in 10 think it reduced living costs.

Trelicia Mornes, 36, of Texas claimed the Biden presidency has harmed her daily spending. “Now that he’s in the office, the cost of living has spiked out of control, and there’s nothing being done about it,” Democrat Mornes said of rising rent and food prices. She claimed Biden can do more, “He just chooses to do other things.”

Trump's pandemic cost the economy 2.7 million jobs. But pandemic lockdowns also severely reduced inflation. Low interest rates and record deficit-funded government stimulus made many households better off under Trump. Biden provided aid after the pandemic, boosting the economy and creating 15.2 million jobs. Many economists blame supply chain concerns, Russia's war in Ukraine, and Biden's aid package for rising inflation, harming Democrats' support ratings.
