1833 Capped Bust Gold $5 Half Eagle: Large Date

The 1833 Capped Bust Gold $5 Half Eagle, featuring a "Large Date" variety, is a notable and sought-after coin among collectors of early American gold coinage.

Designed by William Kneass, the Capped Bust Half Eagle series holds historical significance and numismatic value for its role in the early years of the United States Mint.

On the obverse of the coin, a left-facing bust of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap is depicted, surrounded by the inscription "LIBERTY" and the date "1833."

The "Large Date" variety refers to the size and style of the numerals used for the date, which are noticeably larger compared to the "Small Date" variety of the same year.

The reverse of the coin features a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons.

The eagle is surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D." indicating the denomination of the coin.

The 1833 Capped Bust Gold $5 Half Eagle with the Large Date variety is prized by collectors for its historical significance, low mintage, and scarcity.

While exact mintage figures vary, surviving specimens of this coin are relatively scarce compared to other issues of the Capped Bust Half Eagle series.
